Hi everyone,
I’m pleased to say that all book orders have been fulfilled and are now en route to you. Many have been received in NZ and Australia, but I’m yet to hear of a successful arrival in the US or Europe. Let me know when that happens, if it’s you.
On 1st September, I launched the book to a very warm home crowd here in Wanaka. Friends, family and supporters gathered to hear stories and receive the first available copies. It was a lot of fun.
We even managed to raise $300 for the NZ Himalayan Trust with the auction of a ‘multi-signature’ book, that is, everyone who was involved in the book production who was at the launch. It even contains two generations of signatures from the Hillary family – both trustees of the Himalayan Trust. Well done to Penzy Dinsdale for winning the auction and upping the bid to an even $300.
The Sunday Star Times reporter Mike White wrote a very thorough article about the book, focusing on its subtler, but in many ways, more important message. As Mike says:
Seeking the Light, is outwardly about climbing the country’s highest mountains, the rock and snow spires rising above 3000m… but [it’s] about nature’s healing powers and how we’ve distanced ourselves from it – is really at the heart of the book and Lang’s views on life.
You can read the full story here.
The Youtube link (viewable worldwide) to the feature on the Sunday programme on TVNZ is now live. It’s called ‘The High Life’ and you can view it here.
If you don’t already have a book and would like one, I am sending books by courier immediately. <ORDER YOURS HERE> Please indicate if you’d like it signed in the ‘order notes’ section. Alternatively, books will be available in stores nationwide from today, Monday 12th September.
Thanks again for your support. Until the next time,
Gavin
Awesome work Gavin. The book is amazing and was certainly worth the wait. Congratulations on seeing your vision through.
As a photographer and keen outdoorsman I will be reading with vested interest in all your climbs and hoping one day to get up a few myself.
Cheers Craig.
Thanks for your feedback Craig, and it’s fantastic to hear that you feel it was worth the wait. Enjoy the read and good luck with the climbs. Gavin
